Community

St. Mark’s is located in Richmond, Texas, and its mission field is Fort Bend County, the
tenth-most populous county in Texas with a population of over 585,000 in 2010. The largest
city in Fort Bend County is Sugar Land which is rapidly growing along with the fast-growing
cities of Richmond and Rosenberg.  St. Mark’s draws parishioners from these three cities as
well as many smaller communities in Fort Bend County.

Fort Bend County is one of the best places in Texas to raise a family offering award-winning
school systems, outstanding libraries, affordable housing, and world-class medical care offered
by numerous hospitals, diagnostic centers, and physicians.

Sugar Land has been named one of the nation’s “Best Places to Live”, “Best Places to
Raise a Family” and one of “America’s Best Places for Youth” to name a few of the city’s
national accolades.

Fort Bend County is the wealthiest county in Texas with a median household income of over
$95,000. In addition, Fort Bend County was named the most ethnically diverse county in the U.S.
in 2013 by the Rice University Kinder Institute for Urban Research. According to the 2010 federal
census, it comes closer than any other U.S. county to having an equal distribution of the nation's
four major ethnic groups. In 2010, Fort Bend County was 19 percent Asian, 24 percent Latino, 21
percent African-American and 36 percent Anglo.

Colleges and universities in Fort Bend County include the University of Houston System at Sugar
Land, Wharton County Junior College with campuses in both Sugar Land and Richmond, Texas
State Technical College, and Houston Community College System campuses.
