Blessed to be a Blessing

Blessed to Be a Blessing
All of us at St. Mark’s have been blessed by our God, and we offer praise and thanksgiving not only with our lips but with our lives.  On Sunday, October 25, we will begin our five-week pledge campaign: Blessed to Be a Blessing.  In the spring, with the same theme, we focused on the commitment of our time and talent.  Now we are called to make a commitment of our treasure.  The fall campaign, focused on the blessings of our treasure, can be as the Rev. Laurel Johnston put it, “an opportunity to bless God and bless the community from the offerings of the labor of our lives.”

God has one church, and he has called that church to be a blessing and to make a difference in the world.  We begin to make a difference and take our blessings into the world when we acknowledge certain blessings in our lives.  This is a time for us to reflect upon our blessings and to consider what we might give back to God, trusting in the difference our offering will make for God’s glory.
  • Our campaign begins October 25.  In the days to come, set aside time to prayerfully consider the difference God will make through you and your financial commitment. How exactly have you been blessed and what portion of your income is given to God and his church?
  • Throughout the campaign, you will hear from the clergy and fellow parishioners about our lives blessed to be a blessing.  Let us be open to the Spirit speaking through the people of our parish.
  • On November 22, we will celebrate Commitment Sunday, the culmination of our campaign, when we will make our financial pledges and offer those pledges as an act of worship.  We will have only one service that Sunday at 11:15am to help mark our special day.  After the service, we will continue with our celebration and enjoy a festive lunch and the special fellowship we have all come to appreciate in our church.
We ought to be challenged to make a difference in our pledges because God is making a difference in our lives, and we are called to make a difference in the world.  This is what our life is about: Blessed to Be a Blessing.  We thank God for the good in our lives and we take our lives and our blessings into the world.  Please be a part of our continued journey, our life together, blessed to be a blessing!
